JayNii Study Tour is a fascinating community cultural holiday music and dance workshop tour to interact, have fun, teach and learn everything African in Ghana whilst its proceeds support the JayNii StreetWise Organisation not-for-profit project – ‘Having fun, Helping the needy’. A genuine experience of the other side of the world. Touring and learning everything African – Drumming, dance, cooking, wares etc. while having fun in the sun.

Join us in the ‘Land of Smile’- Ghana, West Africa, for a two-week or one month fun as we move amidst and beyond the music and dance, making new friends and seeing/learning new things.

On the other hand, you could bring tents to mount on the serene JayNii Beach and enjoy the cool breeze as we sit together by the bobo by night amidst story-telling and music interludes.

Food

Three delicious ‘finger-licking’ Ghanaian meals are prepared and provided daily by ‘Auntie Jay special’ at the beach premises. Vegetarians and special dietary situations are catered for.

The learning process

The tour offers two – four weeks intimate, intensive and interactive study to give participants a true immersion in the rich and diverse cultures of Ghana.

Under the supervision of two very nice people – Emmanuel Quartey, an Artistic Director, composer and a musician, and Naa Borkor, a choreographer and an intrinsic, irresistible dancer, studying is 4 hours every week day. According to students’ levels of skill (beginners, intermediate and advanced), they are divided into smaller groups in order to benefit from the needed attention given by our well-trained / professional tutors. It has always been fun and easier to learn and retain the rhythms, movements and any other things taught.

Participants are taught a range of dances, rhythms and other instruments from different Ghanaian ethnic groups as well as other African countries. The history and cultural significance of everything taught are not left out. Private lessons can be arranged

There is a possibility of meeting great people who have influenced the arts and culture of our nation to mentor and showcase the arts for you to get an indebt idea/knowledge about everything.

Instruments for lessons

Items needed for the drumming and dance lessons are kpanlogo drum, djembe, shekere, bell and couple of sticks.

Participants can bring along other instruments from their country so that together, we create a fusion to showcase eventually. Saxophone, electric guitar, bass, drumkit, trumpet, even lesser known instruments etc .

Night and Day Schedules

The evenings presents the opportunity to experience, interact with the people in the communities and enjoy variety of performances from the various regions of Ghana held in various locations in and around the Jamestown.

The apex and exciting part for all participants is the chance for them to perform for local audience.

At leisure in the day, one could choose to laze around under the shades of the parasol/lounge as enjoying the cool breeze from the sea or have fun with the JayNii StreetWise Children (www.jayniiwise.com) after school.
